About the Artist

Nancy Jacobs earned her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and an MAT from NLU in Evanston, IL.  She has exhibited in Missouri, Illinois, and New Mexico and has paintings in private collections in IL, CO, NM, AZ and MS. Originally from the Midwest, she spent 13 years in New Mexico, where she taught art and elementary education before moving to North Carolina with her husband Craig and their two dogs Eva and Annie.

Through her work, she translates her experience of places, people and objects into visual form, articulating the ‘idea’ of her subjects rather than their physical appearance.  Inspired by the contrast between wilderness and the cultivated landscape, she distills the natural world into basic lines, forms and colors.

“Painting for me is a way of seeking meaning: as a visual person, it is my way of understanding the world around me.”
